We asked some of our former students to report back about their college experience so far. Stephanie is our highlight for August! Here's what she has to say about her campus.
Stephanie McCarthy at Texas Christian University!
What do you like about TCU?
"The biggest thing that I love about TCU is that it feels like home. The campus is gorgeous and the people who go there are even more amazing. I have formed the lifelong connections that I always dreamed of and become part of so many amazing communities on campus. Finding people with similar interests to me through different clubs on campus has been one of the most amazing things, as I am able to be connected to so many different people while sharing a common interest. I also love being part of Greek life, as being in a sorority has brought me my best friends, people to look up to, and lasting friendships. Living in a dorm was also such a special experience, as so many of my friends were people who lived down the hall and the dorm experience helped me learn so much about myself. The TCU community is something so incredibly special and the love every person has for the school has made every single moment so memorable.."
What is something that surprised you
about TCU?
"I don’t think I expected to have as tight knit of a community that I’ve found at TCU. It is so amazing so see families and alumni come out to watch every sports game and having conversations with them about their time at TCU. Every person I’ve met has such a strong love for the school and it is such an incredible feeling to cheer alongside them during ever sports event. Having all of our sports stadiums on campus makes going to the games even more fun, especially getting to see everyone wearing purple all around campus on game days. Game days are some of my favorite memories, especially rushing the football field with my best friends after beating Baylor this past season."
What are you studying/involved in?
"I am majoring in political science with a minor in communications and am part of the John V Roach Honors College. I love the connections that I have been able to make with my professors and advisors, as the school is such a tight-knit community. I am part of a Panhellenic sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and I absolutely love being surrounded by such a strong and empowering group of women. I am our Executive Assistant and love being able to get further involved in my sorority. I volunteered as a facilitator for Frog Camp this summer which is an experience for incoming first year students, helping to welcome them to TCU. I am part of the Impact of Words, whose goal as a club is to spread positivity and kindness around campus by putting up post it notes with positive messages. I was also part of Frog Aides which is a small, tight knit leadership cohort for each class of first-year students. I love being part of so many different groups on campus, as I have been able to create friendships with so many different people and each group has taught me something new and brought something different to my life."
Fun fact you’ve learned about TCU?
"Something that TCU prides itself on is its small student-to-faculty ratio, being a 13:1 ratio. This is something that I love about the university, as it has allowed me to create real connections to my professors and have a more engaging learning environment. After finishing my freshman year, most of my classes had an average of 35 to 40 students and my honors class had only 16. One of my professors even invited all of her students to her house for homemade pizza and dinner during finals week. Moments like that make me so thankful to attend a school where I feel known by my professors and can build real connections with them. "
What did UniVarsity Help You With?
"Univarsity played a huge role in my college application process. Their desire to learn more about me and help me think about what I wanted in a college caused us to find so many amazing universities to apply to. Going into the application process, I thought I wanted to go to a large school in the south, but I could not be more thankful that they told me about TCU. Univarsity helped me perfect all my essays, honors college applications, and provided me with so much knowledge about what each school had to offer. I am so happy to have had their support, patience, and honesty throughout the entire college application process, as they brought me so much ease and helped make the process much smoother. I am so thankful for each them and for them helping me find the school of my dreams. "
Doing Anything Fun on the Weekends?
"One of my favorite things that TCU does is host bands and music artists for concerts on campus. This past year I saw Surfaces, Clinton Kane, Public Library Commute who were all amazing, and we even had Flo Rida on campus! I loved having movie nights in our dorm lounge or piling into a friend’s room with all my friends. Dinner with my big in my sorority, going to fraternity parties, Sonic runs, and long walks down the river were always a great time. Some of my favorite memories were my sorority formals or mixer events, as it was always so much fun having a night out with my best friends and getting to spend it with all of our sorority sisters too!"
